Nailpolish Feather

I was fiddling with a nifty little feather design a few months ago and found a SUPER EASY way to put a tiny feather on your nails. I did it on paper to show you guys how and it also gave me the idea that you could use it for scrapbooking, card making, mixed media....sky's the limit!!!! Hope you like it!

Firstly place a single dot for the base of the feather, keeping in mind the 'shaft' still needs to be drawn on one end. Using a nail tool or- like me- a toothpick, draw out one side of the circle till it forms a warped pear shape. Don't stress if its messy like mine- it gets covered later.

Ok now for the fun part...drawing the feather. I skimped a bit and used a permanent fine tip PITT pen which works amazingly well, but if you can draw it with nail polish using a tool, thats even better- your skills are admirable!!! With your black, draw a fine vein throught the centre of the pear shape and extending it past the original dot, widening it slightly as you get to the end.

Next you can draw as many or as few defining lines for the barbs. I did short strokes which lie against eachother all the way up the sides and a couple lines connecting the outer strokes to the inner vein. I think here my photo will make more sense than me!! =) To finish it off, making it look less leaf-ish, draw a few stray 'downy barbs' below the main section of the feather. This makes it look more like the gorgeously soft feathers from a chicken's rear end rather than a leaf. But thats my opinion... use your imagination and twist it as you like...
