A while ago i pinned this picture on Pinterest which i think is downright AMAZING!! (Just google 'Yanni Floros' and copious amounts of breathtakingly hyperrealistic charcoal drawings will fill your screen) I hope he doesnt mind me using this one in my work, but his talent is a real inspiration to me!

Now before i follow my love of analysis and start a rant... I will explain my artwork 'Vibes'. The scale of my drawing is much smaller than Yanni's, although i drew mine copied from his, exactly. By putting myself in the subject's place, i could imagine the happy, upbeat type of music i would be listening to, and to me, adding bursts of colour would ebrace exactly that feeling.

I began by drawing the headphones, and then realised it would probably be easier to put the colour in first, and then draw it, so if i would repeat the process, i wouldnt start by drawing the headphones, but just an outline of the shape, before going to the next step: masking.

I pulled the contact off the backing and layed it EXTREMELY gently over the outline, then, with a permanent marker, drew the outline on the contact. After cutting the shape out, i stuck it to the page (being careful not to push to hard, on firmly on the outside edges, so it doesnt rip the paper when its taken off).

From here I had a party with water colours and stiching, creating a 'happy vibes' feeling with the outward spreading splatters.

(Below: halfway the process)

That completed, the contact could be taken off with only a teeny bit of the pencil from the headphones coming off, thankfully! I then drew the hair and put a coloured backing on the final artwork.

-----------

I like the contrast of the monotone pencil to the bright watercolours and stitching, yet the colours bring a sense of what the subject is feeling...im tempted now to make more for all different moods of music =)
