Thats the title of a book.

An amazing book actually, by the fabulous artist/mum Sarah Ahearn. The caption under the title reads "Fuelling creativity with sketchbooks and mixed media", and she's hit the nail on the head! Its a lot less of a step-by-step book, and where is lacks teacher-student atmosphere, it gains creative inspiration... placing Sarah as a friend rather than a tutor (Yes, in this case the step-by-step lacking is a sure good thing!) Full of her own pages, other artist's and documentations of her workspace and process, i felt part of the production.

Did you know mistakes are fantastic in an artwork? That you can use those tiny scraps you didnt dare part with but had no use for? That you can actually draw on your pages in childlike simplicity? Yeah, me neither. What i mean, is i knew you could do that...artists can do anything, but make it look great? Thats something i just learnt too. The only way to understand what i'm blabbering about is by reading her book, trust me.

StartFragmentHer artworks are so free, letting loose and embracing simplicity. It almost felt awkward letting myself use scraps and pencils in my artworks while for so long I believed art had to be done with new papers, deliberate pen lines and stamped lettering. EndFragment

Anyways time for me to shush the arty analyzing part of me.... After pawing through the entire book with awe-opened mouth I pulled out my art stuff to have a go at it myself. There is a section in Painted Paged where Sarah goes through her process, so i loosely followed that to document part of a family Busselton trip last year....Below are the pictures (The first one isn't done yet, the last one is the completed page)
